21-25 September 1400-1700Z Stationary ALTRV between Pax River and Wallops FAA to establish a Stationary ALTRAV (temporary airspace reservation) extending from the surface up to 4000’ MSL, effectively connecting Patuxent River restricted area complex (R4005, R4006, R6609) to the Wallops Flight Facility restricted area complex (R6604). The information for this ALTRAV will be posted in the FDC NOTAMS, and the draft ALTRAV language is below.
During this exercise, you can expect large formations of fighter aircraft to conduct tactical maneuvering in this airspace, flying at airspeeds up to approximately 540 KIAS and performing rapid altitude changes (climbing or descending) as they intercept one another. These aircraft will do their utmost to maintain situational awareness and clear their flight paths of potential stranger traffic in this area, however we want to share this information as widely as possible so that civilian air traffic is aware that we will be operating in airspace that is usually the domain of local civilian traffic.
Our goal, first and foremost, is to conduct this training as safely as possible, and sharing this information with local airfield managers and pilots is a key component. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
